Paddington-Director Paul King has done it again, bringing to life a beloved children’s book character in a stunning, colorful, and captivating film. This time, Willy Wonka is the focus of the prequel Wonka, based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is already the third film adaptation of the original.
Wonka is currently still showing in theaters, but the most expensive tickets have already sold out, with production costs exceeding $125 million (via The Numbers). The home cinema edition can also be pre-ordered now, including a limited edition Steelbook. All home cinema variants will be released on June 30, 2024.
Wonka – on 4K+ Blu-ray in limited Steelbook
In addition to the limited Steelbook, there is also the standard 4K+ Blu-ray edition available for pre-order, as well as the Blu-ray and DVD editions. While the film is still in theaters, it is not yet available on Amazon Prime Video, but it can now be pre-ordered for streaming.
Wonka is a film with heart and great characters. Acting legend Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka to Johnny Depp’s portrayal in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Here, Timothée Chalamet takes on the role of the chocolatier, and he may be less grouchy due to playing a younger version and telling the story.

The home cinema version can already be pre-ordered. It contains the original elements that make up Wonka. Hugh Grant takes on the role of the Oompa Loompa, which has been reworked here with CGI effects. Despite Grant’s initial discontent, the British actors have received very positive reviews. They predict that Wonka will become a holiday classic and particularly praise Chalamet’s performance and the uplifting, colorful story of the film.
